Dell’s 11.6-inch Inspiron 11z sure looks promising, with a sub-$500 price tag and an Intel Celeron 723 / non-Atom processor, but if you ask the gang at Notebook Review to describe it, it’s unfortunately a pretty big letdown. Some minor issues with the body from the get-go, it’s apparently got one of the worst touch pads the site’s ever seen, and the 1.2GHz processor ended up underperforming compared to its Atom-based competition (although we gotta wonder how using Windows 7 instead of Vista might help here). There is some good here, with the GS45 chipset and X4500 graphics allowing for decent 3D performance and smooth 720p playback

As most Mac users have undoubtedly read over the past few days, there are some pieces of software that are a bit buggy with the latest version of OS X, Snow Leopard, which was released on Friday. Applications that have been having issues include the developer builds of Chrome and Chromium for OS X. While these versions are obviously still not complete yet, there are more and more people using them as they had been becoming increasingly stable and usable under OS X Leopard.

Google Voice is great, but it isn’t an entirely free voice-over-internet service if you have to pay a phone bill to use it. With a few tweaks, though, you can talk to anyone on-the-cheap through Skype, or entirely for free with Gizmo. Since we’re extremely cheap , we’ll start out with the Gizmo/Google Voice 1/2 combo, since you can use it to place and receive calls without spending a dime.

If you’ve been keeping up with the latest Chrome releases for OS X and you just upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard , you may have been disappointed to learn that Snow Leopard introduced quite a few bugs into Chrome. Luckily, Google’s just released a dev channel update for Chrome on OS X fixing issues related to keyboard shortcuts, appearance, crashes, and more. You can download the latest dev release here

The iPhone could make its way to other carriers within the year, Apple’s talking (probably new) iPods next week, and the kitchen scale is still one of the best tools for the serious kitchen. Apple expected to offer iPhone on new U.S. carriers within a year If you’ve been aching for an iPhone but aren’t so eager to switch your carrier to AT&T, you may be in luck.

It’s sort of interesting that China is where all the Android action seems to be going down lately , but here we are, staring at the LG GW880 — essentially the company’s first Android phone. Of course, “Android” in this case means China Mobile ’s custom WiFi-less OPhone platform , which means we’ll probably never see this guy outside of the Middle Kingdom, but it’s a fair look at what LG’s handset designers think an Android set should look like: 3.5-inch WVGA touchscreen, 256MB RAM, GPS, and a five megapixel camera. Honestly

Reader Jonathan sent us this snazzy graph he made comparing different disposable email services, which got us wondering: What you use to keep your primary email address out of the public (and spammer’s) eye. Whether you’re signing up for a free site that requires a login or signing up for the last web newsletter without an RSS feed, handing out your primary email address willy nilly isn’t an option for most tech-savvy folk.

A week ago I had a chance to sit down for a hour-long one on one interview with Google CEO Eric Schmidt . There were no rules, and the whole interview was on the record. Part of the interview was on video as well.

The perfect complement to your Periodic Table Shower Curtain. Intergalactic travelers understand the importance of a good towel. Curious about how well the new Archos 3 Vision portable media player stacks up to its bulkier, more voluminous predecessors? Perhaps the video review after the break courtesy of Archos Fans forum user roylovelock will satiate your curiosity — it will, at least, make you a bit queasy thanks to the handheld camerawork. Placed next to an Archos 5 the thing looks positively lilliputian, but its 3-inch touchscreen seems more than adequate and, while 8GB of storage may not be much, microSDHC expansion offsets that
